Food Grade Tank FAQs
What makes a tank "food grade"?
A food-grade tank is made from FDA-approved HDPE material that is safe for food contact. For reconditioned tanks, it also means the tank has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and either previously held only food-safe substances or has been certified through our cleaning process.
Can I use a food-grade tank for storing drinking water?
Yes, our food-grade tanks are safe for potable water storage. For long-term drinking water storage, we recommend new food-grade tanks to ensure maximum cleanliness. Always rinse the tank before first use.
What documentation do you provide?
For food-grade tanks, we provide: Certificate of Cleanliness, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Previous Contents Declaration (when known), Cleaning Process Documentation, and Visual Inspection Report.
How do I know what the tank previously held?
We track and document previous contents when possible. Premium food-grade tanks only previously held food-safe substances. If previous contents are unknown, we mark them as such and recommend them only for non-direct food contact applications.
Are your tanks kosher certified?
We offer kosher certification options for customers who require it. Please specify this requirement when ordering, as kosher tanks require additional preparation and documentation.
How should I clean the tank before use?
While our tanks are delivered clean, we recommend a final rinse with potable water before first use. For sensitive applications, you may want to do a test rinse with your intended product. Do not use harsh chemicals that could affect the HDPE material.
Need Documentation?
We provide complete documentation including certificates of cleanliness, material specifications, and history reports for food grade tanks.
